Disable Anti-Aliasing fonts

First, make sure you have a recent version of Mozilla Firefox

After you've installed firefox, you'll have to create/edit "~/.fonts.conf". It should look something like this:

<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
<!-- /etc/fonts.conf file to configure system font access -->
<fontconfig>

<!-- Antialias -->

<match target="font">
        <test qual="any" name="size" compare="more">
                <double>8</double>
        </test>
        <test qual="any" name="size" compare="less">
                <double>15</double>
        </test>
        <edit name="antialias" mode="assign">
                <bool>false</bool>
        </edit>
</match>

It should be working now. Eventually restart xfs (X Font Server), X itself, or even your box.

If firefox fonts are still giving you trouble, try starting it with:

GDK_USE_XFT=0 firefox
